Corporate Coaching - Coaching for Organisations

“People do not reach their full potential for one main reason:

The single universal block is unfailing the same, variously described as fear of failing, lack of confidence, self-doubt and lack of self-belief.”

Sir John Whitmore - Coaching for Performance

One to one coaching is fast becoming the preferred and most effective management and staff development tool.

Coaching reaches the places that traditional training courses don’t and Research by the International Personnel Management Association, concluded that “ordinary training typically increased productivity by 22%, while training combined with coaching increased productivity by 88%”

I have a strong philosophy that for a company to really perform, coaching needs to be available to all staff. The benefits of coaching within higher management are well documented, and the benefits can be reaped at all levels. The combination of my HR, coaching and NLP qualifications and experience gives me unique insight into the needs of staff and the business needs of an organisation. Combining these skill sets, I work with you to create programs which will assist greatly with staff morale, motivation, work life balance and of course stress levels.

What is Corporate Coaching?

Coaching within an organisation is an interactive process that is designed to help individuals to develop rapidly. It is usually work related and focused on improving performance or behaviour. It is a goal-orientated form of personally tailored learning. The essential features of coaching within an organisation are that it is a short term, time limited, paid for, goals specific, action orientated, personally tailored approach to learning. Corporate coaching utilises feedback and offers some objectivity.

Corporate coaching involves coaching towards organisational goals. Just as a football coach coaches a football team, a corporate coach coaches an organisation, focusing on the corporate team and corporate vision, mission, values and strategy.

Results are measured against the performance requirements of the organisation.

Benefits and Research

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have produced some very important documents. Their ‘Coaching and Buying Coaching Services’, produced in 2004 is a good example. Written by Jessica Jarvis, it covers subjects such as:

Its respondents are typically the HR professionals in the organisations. Its findings include:

It also cites a MetrixGlobal LLC survey that coaching produced a 528% return on investment alongside significant intangible benefits to the business.

Given the number of HR professionals who are members of the CIPD, if your market is UK corporate it could well be worth reading this, as they probably have.

Why use a Corporate Coach

Through coaching people are able to:

What is the difference between a Corporate Coach and other similar professionals?

The key difference:

Trainer
A trainer deals with input of knowledge and skill
Mentor
A Mentor focuses on an industry or subject matter and helps to carve a pathway through the organisation
Consultant
A Consultant diagnoses and recommends solutions to organisations at a macro level on strategic and cultural issues
Manager
A Manager sets direction, manages process and performance
Counsellor
Counselling is about fixing / helping people without the strength or the inner resources to do so themselves (something anchors people into the past which blocks them going forwards)
Coach
A corporate coach helps people achieve their goals by using their own inner resources. It is focused on the future.

Why should I use an external coach?

Corporate Coaches are detached outsiders and independent thinkers (of the organisation) who can reflect ideas, evoke solutions and support their implementation in ways that no insider ever could

Sir John Whitmore - Coaching for Performance

Coaching can harness this for the good of the individual and the organisation.

Coaching in the workplace positively impacts the bottom line.

What can you expect?

Coaching sessions are uniquely tailored to your situation.

You can have as many or as few sessions as you want or need. Many people find that a single 90-minute session solves their immediate need, while others want a few more, especially if it's been an issue they've lived with for a long time.

We have worked with many individuals on a range of different issues, including:

What happens during a coaching session

You'll be asked to think beforehand about what you would like to have happen as a result of the coaching, i.e. what’s the point of spending time and money with a coach - and your answer to that question will be the focus of our attention to begin with.

We will meet with you to establish where you want to get to, where you are now and how long it will take to close the gap and how.

Sometimes one session is all that is needed to clarify goals and remove the often self- inflicted barriers.

In between sessions, you'll be given tasks to help further your understanding of your own thinking and behaviour patterns.

  1. Which area(s) of your work and life are not as you would like them to be? List them or draw a picture
  2. Now score each out of 10; so that a score of 10 means that this area is as you would like it to be and a low score indicates that all is not well with an area
  3. Take the above scores and take some time to think about what a ‘10’ would be like for you … how would you know?, what’s telling you that this areas is not as you would like it to be (most of us are very good at identifying what’s not ok but not so good at working out what we want instead)
  4. What needs to happen for you to achieve a ‘10’ in this area
  5. What’s stopping you …?

Testimonials

I'd been struggling to complete my business plan for months. It had become a major obstacle to overcome. Claire helped me see a clear way forward and helped me to identify specific actions I could take. I completed my business plan within three days. I achieved more in those three days, thanks to Claire, than I had achieved in the previous three months and a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders

A.W. (Hants), Business Owner

I found the session particularly effective. It was particularly good for me to be able to talk freely, churn out all of the jumble and not feel judged by anything I said! It's amazing how my perspective changed when I could assess practical steps to take.

Your questions were most appropriate and thought-provoking. Thanks a lot.

D.C. (Midlands), Financial Sector

I feel a lot more in control, where work is concerned; I seem to have a lot more choices.

I feel more whole. I feel that I have more of an understanding of what is going on, and that I’ve been invited (a little) to take part in life rather than being an observer.

My Manager, as one of the few people who know I attend this course (6 one to one coaching sessions) is pleased with my progress. I think she is quite shocked that this was something I have managed to do.

J.P., IT Project Manager

For me the coaching was like taking my mind to the opticians … before, I felt like my life was out of focus and blurry. Now I feel like I've got new glasses and everything is sharp and in focus. I can see where I'm going now.

I could best describe the experience as like being given a blueprint to me and I had some real 'a-ha' moments.

I now have a significant number of new coping tools and see this as an on-going part of life

… better able to coach my team – improved my understanding of others needs at work

…Salary increased by £5k as a result

F.C., Senior Manager
